Our Agricultural Biosecurity Policy addresses the need to prevent the introduction and spread of diseases, pests and invasive plant species on agricultural land and livestock operations. The policy was developed in consultation with government and industry.
The policy standardizes and clearly communicates our long-standing practices. It creates a standard operating procedure (PDF, 118 KB) that assesses potential biosecurity risks, considering factors such as soil conditions and time of year, and prescribes actions to manage the risks. All Manitoba Hydro employees and contractors working on private agricultural land are aware of this procedure.
When planning their work, our employees and contractors take soil conditions (wet, dry, frozen), the time of year and the nature of their work into consideration. This planning helps to manage the potential risk to agricultural land.
Agricultural biosecurity is a complex issue and responsibility for its management rests with all stakeholders. Our procedures will evolve as conditions change and with feedback from other stakeholders and our partners in government and industry.
